Poetry

Words from the heart — poetry of homeland, sea, and exile

Arwad, My Island

Arwad, my small island A piece of my traveling heart In you I was born, the sea my cradle Its waves rocking my thoughts

Call of the Sea

Whenever exile weighed upon me The sea called from afar It said: come, my child The shore still yearns for you

Letter to the Homeland

O my wounded homeland O land I watered with tears I shall return carrying a song That washes away all sorrow

I was born on Arwad Island, where the sea surrounds it from all directions. The sea, with its calm and turbulence, its tenderness and cruelty, lived within me and baptized my spirit.
